Föhr Island

With 9,000 inhabitants, Föhr is the second largest of the North Frisian Islands. The isle is located in the midst of the Schleswig-Holstein Mud-Flats National Park and is 7 km away from the mainland.

Wyk auf Föhr (the town of Wyk on Föhr Island) has been a government-approved North Sea Health Resort since 1950 and can look back on a 175-year old tradition as a seaside resort. The small peaceful port is the centre of the island and provides all the amenities of a modern health resort. Apart from Wyk, the main location, there are 16 more villages, whose typically Frisian character has to a large extent been preserved by means of their many cosy thatched houses.

The east and south coast have a beautiful 15 km fine sandy beach, whereas a safe sea dyke protects the country and its people to the west and to the north.

For its athletic visitors, the island has a wide-ranging selection of activities ready such as tennis, horse riding, an 18-hole golf course, volleyball or running club up to the typical maritime sports like sailing, surfing and swimming Open-air chess, crazy golf and sports shooting quite certainly provide a change as well. A visit to the seawater swimming pool with wave simulation, which also provides a sauna area, is always great fun. In addition to all this, there are several fitness studios and a keep-fit trail in Wyk. For bookworms, we recommend the public library in the small cultural centre.
